Ok.. the guessing game continues. I had finally convinced myself that Crowbar is a girl, until this morning and he/she was making a really strange noise that resembled crowing. If Crowbar is in fact a he.. what on earth am I gonna do with another rooster?!
Chicken and dumplings?
ReplyDeleteHi Alana!
ReplyDeleteWe've been down your road this year. Your crowbar is the spittin' image of our Rodeo a couple of months ago when he began to crow. I was in love the the idea of keeping him, but then we discovered we had another rooster as well... I WANTED to keep them, but...we are backyard hen keepers and a couple or our neighbors are less than enchanted with the crowing, which is not just in the morning! Now both boys are more mature and pushing their weight around ( if you know what I mean ). We are not set up for rasing more chicks and keeping them so over the last week we decided to have them slaughtered at a local farm. This way we can see how they taste compared to the natural chicken we buy at the local supermarket. It's taken me a couple of weeks to get comfortable with the idea and even though I'm sad to see them go I feel we've grown as a family on our journey towards living more self sufficiently! Tears and all! Stop by my blog for more posts on Roosters! Read Goodbye Rudy and Rodeo too!
Good luck, Chicken and dumplings sounds pretty good!

Ummm... aren't those saddle feathers hanging down off his sides in the back? Looks roo-ish to me. Check his legs for the beginning of little spurs. Oh, but he is beautiful! Can you give him away if you don't want to keep him?
ReplyDeleteA rooster just showed up here last week. I have no idea where he came from, and loaded with parasites! Finally I decided if he was a skunk or raccoon I wouldn't have any trouble taking care of business, and the lice and mites he was carrying threatened my flock just as much. Game over.
