Ragball Ornaments or Bowl Fillers

I am a huge fan of homespun and a few years back I really wanted some ragball ornaments for my tree. I looked online and at a few local vendors malls but I really couldn't afford the price they were asking. I decided to give it a go and make my own.

I found a fantastic step-by-step photo tutorial on The Feathered Nest. So, I gathered some supplies and got busy!
Here is what I came up with.
Pretty cute, eh?
This year, when I made my denim homespun rag quilt, I found some super cute yellow homespun online that you can never find in stores locally. So of course, I wanted a few ragball ornaments made out of that fabric as well. My only issue was that I didn't really want to spend much money making them, because right now money is tight. After diggin' through my craft supplies, I found that I had all the supplies I needed here at home, except for the foam balls.

On our way to Walmart to get the balls, we stopped by a local thrift store to see if I could find some cheaper. I saw some old and ugly bright yellow string ornaments. They were foam balls with static filled string of some kind wrapped around them, and there was at least 25. I remember my Mom having some similar that were blue back in the very early '80s. The entire bag of ornaments was $0.50! Immediately a light went on I knew I could save those ugly things from going into the trash.. well at least not all of them. I bought them and brought them home. Michael took his box cutter and went around the top edge of the balls and just peeled that ugly string off like peeling a banana. Now I had 25 foam balls to make my ornaments with! Reduce, reuse, recycle!

Here is how they look now!
I love them!

Of course, if you didn't want ornaments, and just wanted to make bowl fillers you could leave off the metal hoop and just wrap the fabric all the way around. That way you can use them all year!
